Damaging Testimony from 2007 Accident at Six Flags
Kentucky Kingdom
According to
reports, a maintenance supervisor
at Six
Flags Kentucky Kingdom, Louisville, Kentucky, stated, in
a deposition, they did not follow the manufacturers (Intamin)
instructions concerning routine maintenance, and safety checks on
cables, on the Superman Tower of Power drop ride. An accident
of breaking cables severed the feet of a teenage girl last year.
However, officials from Six Flags
Kentucky Kingdom
defended their maintenance.
Six Flags New England Coaster Delayed Until 2009
Six Flags New England, Agawam,
Massachusetts, has announced that due to
construction delays, caused by
improper building permits and concerns over construction, the Dark
Knight coaster, will be delayed until 2009. The Dark Knight,
which was currently under construction, is an enclosed Mack Wild
Mouse coaster.
WNYCC Heads to Canada's Wonderland
The
Western New York Coaster Club heads
into Canada to visit
Canada's Wonderland on August 31,
2008. This follows the ACE Event, on August 30, 2008, at
Darien
Lake and
Martins Fantasy Island.

Arrest Made in Conneaut Lake Fire
According to
news
reports, a suspect, Nickolas Dean Pope, 19, has been held
on charges of arson in the fire which destroyed the Dreamland
Ballroom at the currently closed
Conneaut Lake Park, in Pennsylvania. He is also
suspected in the arson of two churches in the area.
Who Wants to Buy a Rollercoaster?
Cedar Fair, LP plans to auction,
through
Norton Auctioneers, some of the
rollercoasters, and other rides, from the now closed Geauga Lake
Amusement park, in Aurora, Ohio. Included in the upcoming
auction, to be held June 17-18, 2008 at the Geauga lake site,
include the classic Big Dipper coaster, the CCI built Villain, the
Dinn/Summers Raging Wolf Bobs, and the Arrow Double Loop.
While all rides and equipment will be sold to the highest bidder, no
minimums/reserves, Cedar Fair must approve the buyer of the Big
Dipper.
Dreamland Park's Scenic Railway Destroyed
The Scenic Railway rollercoaster, at
England's former Dreamland Park, was destroyed by fire on April 7,
2008. The SBNO coaster, built in 1920, had collapsed and was
completely destroyed in what has been stated, in
news reports, as "suspicious".

Frontier City to build Steel Lasso
Frontier City, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has
announced plans to build a Vekoma
family steel inverted coaster, with the name of Steel lasso, for the
2008 season.
WNYCC Coasterfest 2008...Flyer Now
Available
GOCC members and all coaster
enthusiasts are invited to join Western New York Coaster Club
for Coasterfest '08 on Memorial Day weekend at Waldameer and
Kennywood, with an optional day at
Idlewild. Two all-you-can-eat picnics, free
refreshments, photo op, group photos, morning and evening ERT on
six coasters, and a huge 70th and 15th coaster birthday
celebration.
Saturday, May 24 will be at
Waldameer with an all-you-can-eat picnic dinner, free soft
drinks for six hours, guided RFII walkback photo op, and evening ERT on
Gravity Group's new and much-anticipated wooden coaster Ravine
Flyer II, and Steel
Dragon, Waldameer's spinning mouse (or Comet, if that is
preferred).
At Kennywood on Sunday, May 25 there
will be morning ERT on Jack Rabbit and the first ride of the day
on Ghostwood Estates (new dark ride), an all-you-can-eat picnic
lunch with free refreshments one hour before and one hour after
the picnic. There will also be evening ERT on the Racer! These
two coasters are among the best!
Monday, May 26 will be an optional
day at
Idlewild, featuring morning ERT on the ACE Coaster
Classic PTC/Herb Schmeck Rollo Coaster and Wild Mouse (which
originated in
Alton Towers in England). It's the 70th and 15th
birthdays of these two fun coasters, so come help celebrate
with a huge birthday cake, free refreshments for three hours,
and some birthday surprises.

Coastermania! 2008 Announced at Cedar
Point
Cedar
Point, Sandusky, Ohio, has announced their plans to their
annual coaster enthusiast event, Coastermania! The park will
welcome card carrying coaster club members, and their guests, on
June 6, 2008. The event will feature morning ERT on Millennium
Force, Maverick, Raptor, and Blue Streak. Before the park
provides free food, their will be a question and answer session.
The day ends with night ERT on Magnum XL-200, Top Thrill Dragster,
Gemini, and, for the first time, Jr. Gemini.
